Mariners’ road built on Karnaphuli bank to be opened for traffic July 23

 The 1.30 kilometre long mariners’ road built at a cost of Tk 125 million by the Chittagong City Corporation will be opened for traffic from July 23 next.
The CCC Mayor Alhaj Manzur Alam declared it here yesterday to facilitate the movement of 10 million people.
The 28 feet wide road is constructed from Feeringhee Bazaar to Shah Amanat Bridge in order to facilitate the residents of South Chittagong in moving to port city.
A total of four bridges have already been constructed on the road.
The construction of the road began in 2011 last and was scheduled to be completed by June this year. With the construction of this road, the traffic movement of a large numbers of people of South Chittagong, tourist city Cox’s Bazar and Banderban would be easier.
Besides, traffic congestion will also be eased out remarkably.
Some 50,000 vehicles including bus, microbus, pick-up, jeep, car and auto-rickshaws of 18 different routes are regularly plying through the Shah Amanat Bridge and the Kalurghat Railway Bridge and entering into the city. Some 10 million inhabitants of the Southern part of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazaar and Banderban districts will be benefited with the road.
Presently, the people of South Chittagong have been suffering due to traffic jam surrounding the Shah Amaanat Bridge regularly
It may be mentioned that Marine Academy, Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Limited (CUFL), Multi-national Company KAFCO, Ship building yard, and one of the biggest ever foreign EPZ, Korean Export processing Zone (KEPZ) are situated on the South bank of the river Karnaphuli.
The construction of the mariners’ road will immensely benefit the residents of the South Bank. Thery will easily enter into the city through this road.
Besides, mariners’ road will also turn into tourist spot situated just on the bank of the river Karnaphuli attracting a huge numbers of people every day.
