PM to inaugurate LNG terminal at Moheshkhali next month : Energy Advisor

Advisor on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources to the Prime Minister Towfiq -e-Elahi Chowdhury said the formal gas supply from Moheskhali LNG terminal to begin from month.
To mitigate the acute gas crisis in the port city, the long waited LNG gas supply in Chittagong is now at final stage.
In order to supply gas finally, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the floating LNG Terminal at Moheskhali in Cox’s Bazar district on April 25 next .
This was disclosed by the Adviser on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources to the Prime Minister Towfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury Bir Bikram while exchanging views with the leaders of the business community and Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry at World Trade Centre in the city on Wednesday as Chief Guest.
 President of CCCI Mahbubul Alam presided over it . The Energy Advisor said the full fledged supply of LNG is expected from May 15 next following the formal inauguration of LNG terminal by the Prime Minister.
 He said following the supply of LNG through pipeline, the gas crisis in the port city will be resolved to maximum extents; power generation will increase as well as the fertilizer productions from two giant fertilizer factories of Chittagong. He described that at Moheskhali , there will be a floating terminal where a LNG tanker will stay permanently for storing LNG after discharging incoming foreign tanker vessel. He further said the LNG will be transmitted from the terminal to KGDCL transmitting line through pipeline from Moheskhali .
He further disclosed that following gradual decrease of gas generations, the present government has taken this pragmatic measures for supply of LNG . He mentioned that government has inspiring the private entrepreneurs to invest in installing the LNG terminal beside the two govt owned terminals of 500 mmcft capacity each at Moheskhali. After questions of gas price by the business leaders , Energy Advisor said the price matter of LNG will be discussed with Petro Bangla but he ensures that Govt will not do business with LNG except realization of 15% VAT only. He also assures that the gas crisis in the power sector and fertilizer productions in this belt will be ended very shortly , He mentioned in Chittagong a numbers of power plants are located in this belt but generations hampering lack of gas supply.
 President of Chittagong Chamber Mahbubul Alam delivered address of welcome in it. He said the demand of gas in this zone by 2022 will stand at 6000 mmcft and 10,000 mmcft in 2030.
 To meet the growing demands of gas, it needs to certain the dependence of imported LNG and need of long term research and planning on use of imported LNG . Chamber chief further said the gas connections in the port city remain suspended since 2009 and hence the industrial entrepreneurs left Chittagong to elsewhere after discouraging . He also proposed to declare long term gas supply and price policy, price fixation of Energy regulatory committee, to encourage SMEs and decreasing the oil price.
The business leaders also discussed the matters of Captive power and installation of EBC meter at industrial units. In open discussions of the views exchanging, among others Managing Director of Confidence Cement Zahirul Islam, former president of Chittagong Chamber Engr. Ali Ahmed, Chairman of BSRM Ali Hossain, Director of BKMEA Showkat Osman, Director of AKS steel Shahidullah, Topan Chowdhury from LPG sector and Dr. Moinul Islam spoke on the occasion.
