Awami League- backed yellow panel teachers swept in the Chittagong University (CU) Syndicate, finance and academic council election.
The yellow Panel candidates won the eight posts while the BNP-Jamaat-backed White Panel bagged two posts and independent candidate won one post. The polls were held at Social Science Faculty Auditorium from 9:00am to 1:00pm on Sunday.
Election Commissioner and CU acting register Dr. Kamrul Huda conducted the polls and published results in the afternoon.
Sources said pro-Awami League and left teachers contested the polls under “Yellow panel” while pro-BNP-Jamaat alliance under “White panel”.
Yellow panel nominated candidates for all categories while White panel did not nominate their candidates in lecturer categories for syndicate and academic council . As a result, ShetuRanjanBiswas of Management department was elected syndicate member and Mariam Islam of Chemistry department and Mahbubhasan of department were elected members of academic council uncontested In Academic Council: Blue Panel teachers won all the posts .
Winning teachers of Associate Professors Post are: Associate Prof Nirmul Kumar Shah of Law Department and Dr.MohammedShaidul Islam of Bio-Chemistry and Molecular Biology department.
Assistant Professors winning teachers are: assistant professor of Electronic and Electrical Department Mohammed Shah Alam, assistant professor of Islamic History department Sultana Bashar .
Finance Committee: Prof Abu Mohammed Atikur Rahman of Management department won the Finance committee posts from the “Yellow Panel”.
In Syndicate posts the ‘Yellow Panel’ teachers won one out of four posts.
ShetuRanjan Biswas of Management Department was elected syndicate member uncontestly while one independent candidate SM Shadat Al Sajib of Anthropology department won in assistant professor category.
In Syndicate category “White Panel” winners are: Prof Dr .Muzaffar Ahmed of Philosophy Department in Professor category and Dr Mohammed Shakawat Hossain of History Department in Associate Professor category.
The faculty members also participated in advance voting held on December 27-28 at the office of CU teachers’ association from 11:00am to 1:00pm. A total of 66 votes was casted in advance voting.
