



Airtel launches 3G services in Barisal

Airtel Bangladesh, the mobile telecom company, launched third generation (3G) services in Barisal on Monday morning.Colourful procession on roads with decorated vehicle, motor cycle rally, arranged in the city on this occasion participated by the Airtel Bangladesh officials, agents, customers.The telecom operator also introduced various packages for its customers on this occasion, according to F M Shahriar Omar Prince, zonal business manager Airtel Bangladesh.”We are excited to offer innovative products and affordable prices of our 3G services with highest speed, innovative contents for all segments, which will mark a major milestone for Airtel in this southern region of Bangladesh,” he said.Customers can enjoy high speed mobile Internet, HD video streaming, Mobile TV, file sharing and video downloads over Airtel 3G with innovative, simple and affordable data packs, he added.In September, Airtel Bangladesh had won 5 MHz of 3G spectrum for USD 105 million in an auction.
Muggers loot Tk 12.68 lakh in Sylhet

Muggers looted Tk 12.68 lakh from a filling station after injuring two of its employees at Chamelibagh in the city on Sunday. Mujibur Rahman Manik, owner of R Rahman Petrol Pump and CNG Station, situated at Pirer Bazar in Sadar upazila, said his manager was going to deposit the amount to Majortila branch of One Bank Ltd by a company vehicle. As the vehicle reached the Chamelibagh, a group of hoodlums, riding on motorcycles, intercepted the vehicle around 11:00am and took away a bag containing the money. The snatchers also beat the manager and the driver as they tried to resist them.
Demonstrators block intersection in Sylhet city
About two thousand residents of five areas of Sylhet city on Saturday night blockaded Ambarkhana Intersection in the city protesting heavy load-shedding in the areas. Residents of Ambarkhana, Mazumdari, Chouhatta, Shahi Eidgah and Chowkidekhi areas burnt tyres on the road and blockaded the intersection for about two hours causing serious traffic congestion.The demonstrators claimed that Power Development Board officials have been negligent in repairing and replacing transformers in the area. They said there has been load-shedding every alternate hour since last Wednesday. They withdrew the demonstration after police and PDB officials gave assurance of taking immediate measures. Md Abul Hoissain, executive engineer of PDB, Sylhet division-1 said the worn out transformers of the area would be replaced within two days.
