Dinajpur (South) Correspondent :Sultana Kamal , a right activist and Executive Director of Ain O Shalish Kendra visited Khalippur Shree Rampur Adivasipara in Nawabganj upazila under Dinajpur district on Saturday where the Bangali settler allegedly tortured four ethnic people hanging with a banyan tree on May 9 . The incident triggered panic among the Adivasi (ethnic) people in the village . Sultana Kamal visited Khalippur village in Nawabganj upazila under Dinajpur district on Saturday after a report was published in The New Nation.  On May 29, The New Nation published the news under the headline ‘Mediaeval torture of 4 people, 60 ethnic families indigenous families at Nawabgonj UZ living under continuous threat’. The former adviser of the caretaker government spent at least two and a half hour talking with the affected villagers . Talking with her, the affected Adivasi people alleged that local police administration remained inactive despite filing a case regarding the incident. and criminals continue to intimidating them. She went to the houses of Som Soren, 43, son of Sordar Soren, Babulal Soren, 43, son late Barka Soren, Sonaram Tudu, 27, son of late Charan Tudu and Bablu Soren, 25, son of Mongal Soren of Khalippur Adivasipara of Nawabganj upazila under Dinajpur district were tortured hanging from a banyan tree at Kazipara village under the upazila on May 9. She assured legal assistance to the affected people . After visiting the area, she told the newsmen that the incident took place on May 14 evening was inhuman. It’s a long standing issue that Adivasi people in the country have been torturing in a bid to evict them from their land. She alleged that some unethical official police department along with other originations including Land and Forest department are involved with the incident. She urged the politicians to come forward to take the matter seriously. ‘It’s an aim to force the indigenous people to leave the country, although the have been struggling to stay in the country in an independent country’ she added saying that Adivasi people are on the verse of extinction. Amirul Islam Officer In-Charge (OC) of Nawaganj upazila under Dinajpur district said that police arrested the top accused of the case but he got bail recently. ‘Our raids are going on to arrest the other accused’.
