Raise taxes on tobacco

BSS, Chapainawabganj :Speakers at a meeting demanded to raise taxes on tobacco and tobacco related products in the forthcoming budget to discourage smoking and other products.Non-government organization Bangladesh Center for Development Programme (BCDP) and Anti-Smoking Coalition jointly organised the meeting at the conference room of Chapainawabganj Municipality on Saturday.Mayor of Chapainawabganj Municipality Maulana Abdul Matin was present as the chief guest with convenor of Chapainawabganj district unit of anti-smoking coalition Abdul Hannan in the chair.The speakers also urged the authorities concerned for launching massive awareness campaign against tobacco and danger of tobacco related diseases.Public representatives, media workers, teachers, lawyers, imams, government officials and representatives of different professional groups took part in the meeting.
