’22 BNP-Jamaat men killed, abducted in Laxmipur in six months’

The BNP has claimed that 22 leaders and workers of the BNP and the Jamaat-e-Islami were either killed or abducted by the ‘police, RAB and the cadres of Awami League’ in Laxmipur district in the last six months.
BNP’s central leaders, who hail from Laxmipur and adjacent districts, disclosed it to the journalists at the National Press Club in the city on Tuesday. The party Joint Secretary General Mohammad Shahjahan, Laxmipur district unit president Abul Khyaer Bhuiyan,
 party central leader Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Annie and acting president of Jatiayatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) Bazlur Rashid Abed attended the press conference, among others.
The leaders said that 16 leaders and workers of their party and the Jamaat-e-Islami were killed while five others were abducted since October 26 last year. Besides, at least 19 leaders and workers were killed during the anti-government movement of the previous tenure of the ruling party, they said.
Abul Khyaer Bhuiyan submitted a list of the victims. According to him, the killed 16 persons are- Joint Secretary of Laxmipur district Juba Dal Shamsul Islam Solaiman, Farhad Hossain of Chandraganj union BNP, Babar Hossain, Kamal Uddin, Md Selim, Mahbub Alam, Haripad Deba Nath of Laxmipur Sadar and Laxmipur municipality Juba Dal worker Sumon, Asaduzzamn Babul of Rataner Khali, BNP workers Abdul Mannan, Sumon, Shahadat Hossain Rubel, Dider and Abul Hossain Abu, Jamaat district unit Nayebe Ameer Dr Foyez Ahmed and Shibir worker Shihab. Shamsul Islam Solaiman was found dead at Bashurhat in Laxmipur Sadar on April 27,a day after his abduction from Uttara in the city.
The abducted leaders and workers are district Juba Dal Joint Secretary Ikbal Mahmud Juyel, Digli union BNP leaders Belal Hossain Omar Faruk and Md Abdul Kader, Juba Dal workers Alamgir Hossain and Raju.
