Shipping Minister M Shajahan Khan on Sunday said the government has taken a plan to dredge the rivers and fix their boundary in the three Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) districts.
The minister came up with the announcement while talking to reporters at the Secretariat after a meeting over fixing river boundaries, navigability and constructing land ports in the three hills districts.
Shajahan Khan said the meeting decided to conduct dredging of the Karnaphuli, Chengi, Maini, Sangu, Kachalong, Feni, Halda, Icchamati rivers and others for bringing back their navigability and making those fit for vessel movement.
Besides, a decision was taken to fix the boundaries of the rivers in the three districts, and the ‘National River Commission will work for it, said the minister.
It also decided to establish three land ports-Tegamukh in Rangamati, Ghumdum in Bandarban and Ramgarh in Khagrachhari districts.
Chairman of the CHT Regional Council Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma (Santu Larma), Zila Parishad chairmen of the three districts concerned, State Minister for CHT Affairs Ministry Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing and high officials concerned were, among others, present.
