Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal
A discussion on 67th anniversary of Chinese democratic revolution organised by Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal was held at BMA Auditorium in the city on Saturday. Awami League General Secretary and Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam was present as the chief guest. While speaking Ashraful said Bangladesh-China ties as “Historic and empathic” as it was rooted in history. He sought restoration of an old Bangladesh and China road link saying it would benefit the regional countries including India. The programme was also addressed, among others, by Political Councilor to the Chinese Ambassador in Bangladesh Yang Jao Hui, Ganotantri Party’s General Secretary Dr Shahadat Hossain and Politburo member of the organisation Lutfur Rahman. General Secretary of the organisation and former minister Dilip Barua presided over the function.
Debate for Democracy
A discussion titled ‘Necessity to stop child repression and early marriage’ marking National Girl Child Day 2016 organised jointly by Debate for Democracy and National Girl Child Advocacy Forum was held in the city on Saturday. State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroj Chumki was present as the chief guest. While speaking Chumki said poverty and poor education are the root causes of early marriage. She said the government has taken social safety net programmes for checking the menace. “Early marriage must be stopped in order to build a healthy generation”, she added. She asked the guardians and girls to become aware of the dangers of early marriage.
The programme was also addressed, among others, by Secretary to the Women and Children Affairs’ Ministry Nasima Begum, Deputy Police Commissioner, Women Support and Investigation Division, DMP, Farida Yasmin and Editor of the National Girls’ Child Advocacy Programme Nasima Akhtar Joly.
