U-18 Asia Cup Hockey kicks-off today
The seven-nation 4th Boys Under-18 Asia Cup Hockey kicks-off today with the match between China and Hong Kong at 11.00 am at Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium. State Minister for Youth and Sports Dr Biren Sikder will inaugurate the meet as the chief guest while Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy will be present as the special guest.
Seven teams-Bangladesh, India, Oman, Pakistan, China, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong – will be fighting for the continental crown in the youth category from September 24 to 30.
In two other matches on the opening day, hosts Bangladesh will play India at 3.00 pm and Pakistan will meet Chinese Taipei at 1.00 pm. On the eve of the first match against tough opponent India, Bangladesh coach Zahid Hossain Razu expressed his strategy, “In the age-level competitions, the Indians are very good side with experience, I think, they will play the attacking game. So, we want to play with man-to-man mark against them.” “My boys have better understanding among them as they are together for a long time. Hope, they will give their best against India to gain a good result” he added.
Bangladesh is placed in Pool A along with India and Oman while the Pool B comprises of Pakistan, China, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong.
