BPL 4th edition to kick off November 4
The 4th edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 cricket is set to kick off on November 4 next.
The BPL Governing Council of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided to hold the player draft of the event on September 30, said a BCB media release on Saturday.
Seven franchised teams will be featured in this edition of BPL including Khulna and Rajshahi.
Khulna Royal Bengals and Duronto Rajshahi played the first two tournaments in 2012-13.
The five other teams are: defending champion Comilla Victorians, Barisal Bulls, Rangpur Riders, Dhaka Dynamites and Chittagong Vikings.
Sylhet Super Stars, which participated in the last edition, will not be a part of the BPL 4th edition as its contract was terminated for breaching franchisee agreement terms.
Meanwhile, BCB had invited Expression of Interest for franchisee rights of Rajshahi and Khulna from four organisations – Gemcon Group, Mango Entertainment Ltd, Tanveer Food Ltd (A concern of Meghna Group of Industries) and Lab Aid Group — and was shortlisted after the scrutiny.
Gemcon Group and Mango Entertainment Ltd have specifically expressed interest in owning the Khulna and Rajshahi franchises respectively.
The BCB will announce the names of the successful franchises after the Eid-ul-Adha break.
