Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) has asked the National Board of Revenue ( NBR) to keep open the assessment activities of Chittagong Customs over all types of consignments during eid vacations . The decision over the matter of assessment of consignments at Chittagong Port was taken at a meeting of CPA held on Wednesday .
At the same time, the meeting decided to send a letter to Bridge and Communication Minister not to hinder movement of cargo laden transports on highways during Eid vacations.
Port sources said centring different reasons on eid holidays, normally container congestions experienced in previous days and to avoid such congestions during vacation this year, CPA urged the concerned authorities to continue their assessment activities.
Sources said to keep running the import and export activities of RMG sector, NBR declares open Dhaka, chittagong customs, Kamalapur ICD, Mongla Port and Benapole LP alongwith Banks and other agencies from 9 sept to 11 sept . But the Bridge and communication Ministry prohibited the movement of cargo transports on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway during eid vacations. The meeting was presided by Director(Transport) of CPA Golam Sarwar duly attended by BGMEA Director Mahbub Chowdhury, Chairman of Bangladesh Shipping Agents Association Ehsanul Hoque Chowdhury, Dirctor of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce Mahfuzul Hoque shah, Khairul Alam Sujan of Freight Forwarders Association, General Secretary of Inland Container Depots Association Ruhul sikder , Liaquat Ali of C&F Association and senior officials of CPA, sources said.
Meanwhile , Chittagong Chamber of Commerce President Mahbubul Alam has sent a letter to NBR chairman asking to keep open the Customs activities on eid vacations except Eid day on 13 September next for better interests of the RMG sector, sources said.
