Naeem sensational spell powers Mohammedans to go on top

Naeem Islam (jr) bowled a devastating spell as to bag a figures of 4 for 21 which saw Prime Bank Cricket Club Limited suffered a sensational collapse as Mohammedan Sporting Club shoot up top of the points table with an impressive 42-run win on the reserve day (Wednesday) at Sher-e -Bangla Cricket Stadium, Mirpur in the city.
Chasing a target of 225 to win on Tuesday, Prime Bank were 41 for 1 when rain stopped the match and it rolled to the reverse day.
Resuming on 41 for 1 in the seventh over, Prime Bank looked like cruising as they were comfortably placed at 113 in the 22nd over. But Mohammedan’s seam bowler Subashis Roy struck a timely blow to trap Sabbir Rahman for 41 off 49 deliveries studded with seven boundaries.
Mohammedan bowlers grabbed the opportunity as they bottleneck the rest of Prime Bank batsmen to leave them on back foot, conceding 39 runs in the next 68 balls as Prime Bank suffered an extra ordinary collapse losing their last eight wickets of the addition of only 39 runs.
Naeem junior weaved his web to return with 4 wickets for 21 runs which later helped him win the Player-of-the-Match award. Speedster Subashis admirably supported him with three wickets for 49 runs.
Prime Bank’s top three batsmen Mehdi Maruf with 48, Shahnaj with 16 and Sabbir with 41 were able to reach double-figure mark.
Earlier yesterday (Tuesday), Prime Bank bowlers reduced Mohammedan to 41 for 5 in 13.4 overs, but Nazmul with 64, added 84 runs for the seventh wicket with Habibur Rahman (50) to help his side put up a decent target.
Pace bowler Mohammad Azim took three wickets, while Rubel Hossain and left-arm spinner Monir Hossain took two apiece..
