Nahid terms insult of headmaster inhumane

Staff Reporter :
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Monday condemned the physical insult of a high school headmaster in Narayanganj in presence of a lawmaker and termed it as inhumane.
“I am deeply embarrassed at the incident. It is very sad and inhumane. We are very shocked,” he told reporters while he was asked to make a comment on the incident.
A three-member committee has been formed to
investigate the matter, the minister said. “It is very unfortunate. I will gather more information on it. Whatever measures need to be taken, will be done,” he said.
Describing teachers as the most respectable persons in the society, the minister said, “It is a condemnable matter to insult him before mass people. It is unacceptable.”
Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, the Headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in the district’s Bandar area, was made to sit up and down holding his ears on Friday for allegedly making offensive comments about religion while handing out corporal punishment to a student earlier.
Narayanganj lawmaker Selim Osman admitted to the media that the punishment was handed to the teacher in his presence. “There was no other way to save the teacher from the angry public,” he said.
