Premier Cricket: Mominul forces Prime Doleshwar to concede 1st defeat
A fine century by Mominul Haque of Victoria SC forced Prime Doleshwar SC to concede the first defeat in their 5th match of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League at the Khan Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah on Monday.
In the day’s other matches, Legends of Rupganj beat Abahani Limited by 21 runs under D/L method at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mipur while Brothers Union Club defeated holders Prime Bank CC by seven runs also under D/L method at BKSP ground in Savar.
Sent in to bat first, Victoria SC piled up a comfortable total of 270 for 3 in stipulated 50 overs featuring 162 runs in the 2nd wicket stand by Mominul Haque and Abdul Majid.
After the departure of opener Fazle Mahmud with duck in 1.5 overs at 7, one down Mominul Haque pairing with opener Abdul Majid repaired the early damage contributing 162 runs in 34 overs to carry the team total to 169 runs.
Mominul Haque hammered a century scoring run-a-ball 104 hitting 12 fours and two sixes and was adjudged man of the match while opener Abdul Majid made 94 runs off 137 balls, featuring seven fours and one six.
Besides, Al Amin scored an unbeaten 51 runs off 46 balls with three fours and two sixes while Sri Lankan PC De Silva quick-fired six-ball 16 runs hitting two sixes for Victoria.
National pacer Al Amin Hossain grabbed three wickets for 57 runs.
Chasing a target of 271 runs, league leader Prime Doleshwar SC were all out for 211 runs in 43.4 overs to suffer the first defeat by with 59 runs in the league.
National coloured batsman Raquibul Hasan scored the team highest 73 runs off 90 balls, including seven boundaries, opener Imtiaz Hossain made 58-ball 43 runs with eight boundaries, national all-rounder Nasir Hossain scored 41-ball 35 runs with two fours while captain Farhad Reza added 18-ball 21 runs with one four and a six
Sri Lanka PC De Silva was the most successful bowler for Victoria SC claiming five wickets for 36 runs while Al Amin and Kamrul Islam Rabbi took two wickets each conceding 31 and 41 runs respectively.
Sent in to bat first, Abahani Limited scored a challenging total of 255 for 6 wickets in 50 overs, featuring 125 runs in the 4th wicket stand by Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Mosaddek Hossain.
Nazmul Hossain contributed the team highest 72 runs off 82 balls with six fours and one six, Mosaddek Hossain scored 67 runs off 75 balls hitting four fours and one six while skipper Tamim Iqbal made another half century scoring 54 off 64 balls featuring seven fours and a six.
Young star Abu Haider Rony grabbed three wickets for 48 runs while national coloured Taijul Islam took two wickets for 50 runs.
In reply, Legends of Rupgang scored 245 for 5 wickets in 46.4 overs featuring 127 runs in the 2nd wicket between Soumya Sarkar and Mohammad Mithun before the match was stopped for rain.
Later, Legends Rupganj were declared winner by 21 runs under D/L method as they required 225 runs in 46.4 overs.
National opener Soumya Sarker scored the team highest 84 runs off 89 balls with nine boundaries and two over boundaries and was adjudged man of the match while Mohammad Mithun contributed 75 runs off 75 balls, hitting six fours and three sixes.
Saqlain Sajib grabbed two wickets conceding 34 runs while national pacer Taskin Ahmed, Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Mosaddek Hossain took one wicket each conceding 36, 49 and 46 runs respectively.
At BKSP, Prime Bank CC batted first and were all out for 249 runs in 49.3 overs with one down DSNFG Jayasuria making 63, opener Shahnaj Ahmed 42, another opener Mehedy Maruf 36 and Nurul Hasan 34 runs.
Nur Alam bagged three wickets for 25 runs while Tushar Imran took two for 47 runs.
In reply, Brothers Union scored 193 for 3 in 42.5 overs before the match was stopped for rain. Later, Brothers Union was declared winner under D/L method as they required 187 runs in 42.5 overs.
National coloured opener Shahriar Nafees scored an unbeaten 84 runs off 126 balls hitting eight fours and one six.
One down Tushar Imran, who earlier grabbed two wickets, contributed the team’s 2nd highest 41 runs off 56 balls with six boundaries and was adjudged the man of the match. Besides, Zakir Hasan made 45-ball 35 runs in one four and three sixes.
