Old man killed in road mishap in Sharankhola

An old fish seller named Abdul Aziz (70) was killed when he was run over by a speeding motor cycle on Rayenda-Sharankhola, a local Highway at Khuriakhali within Southkhali Union under Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district on Friday morning. It was reported that on the day at 10 am the ill-fated old man was going else where through the highway for selling fish. At that time a speeding motor cycle that was coming from his behind, dashed him violently, ran over him and fled away. As a result, the old man was seriously injured. He was at first admitted to Sharankhola Upazila Helth Complex for his treatment. But considering the gravity of the injuries while he was being taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital for better treatment he succumbed to his injuries.
Village clash leaves 10 injured in Jhenaidah

Atleast 10 persons were injured in a village clash following domination over a piece of land at Bishnupur of Umedpur union under Sailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah one Monday morning. Of the injured Mafizur Rahman, 35, Manirul Islam, 24, and Amirul Islam were rushed to Sailkupa upapzila health complex. Villagers said, there was a long time enmity between two village leaders Abdus Satter and Bablu Hossain following domination in the area. Following the enmity both the groups on Monday morning appeared against each other with Dhal, fall, bamboo stick and sharp weapons where hundreds of villagers participated. Locals rescued the injured and sent them to local UHC, said the villagers.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the president of Sylhet Jatyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) Friday night. Md Sayeed Ahmed,41, who has several cases against him, was handed over to Shahporan Police Station after his arrest, Major SAM Faqrul Islam Khan, a deputy director (media) of Rab-9, said in a press release on Saturday.

A discussion on ‘Water and Jobs’ held at local collectorate conference hall on Wednesday. Public Health Engineering Department Executive Engineer Md. Tojammel Haque presided over the meeting while ADC (Education & ICT) Golam Mohammad Bhuiyan attended as chief guest. It was addressed among others by Deputy Director of Agriculture Shafiqul Islam, District Press Club President Mostafa Kamal, Former Press Club President Abdul Latif, Principal Professor Rafiqul Islam, Prof Pranesh Kumer Chowdhury, Senior Adv Nasiruddin Faruki, Mohila Parished District President Sultana Rajia, Sadar Upazila Vice-Chairman Kamrunnahar Luna, Gazi Monsur Rahman and Mazher Manna.
