Life in slums

The destruction of rural economy forced many rural people to move to the capital and other cities. Many of them now live slums and they need to live in constant fear of eviction, bulldozer, land grabbers and arsonists. Although marginalised in developmental perspective, their contribution to urban economy is far from being marginal. The government needs to take expeditious steps to ensure the wellbeing of slum dwellers by making sure they have free access to education, health, habitat, fresh water, food and sanitation.
