Abir Rayhan :To celebrate the first day of the Spring, tens of thousands of youths, both males and females, traditionally attired in yellow dresses, converged on the Bangla Academy and the Suhrawardy Uddyan premises on Saturday.To express the joys and beauty of the Boi Mela, there are no words to express. It is the tradition, an oath to uphold the loves for books.Writer Anis Ahmed said, “Every year the Book Fair becomes an extraordinary venue for celebration of the stalk of Spring on Saturday- the first day of the Bangla month of Falgun.“It’s really pleasure to see the city residents in colourful outfit, assembled on the fair premises in amid festivity.Siyam Shuvo a student of DU Political Science department said, “It is a part of our culture and I cannot think of celebrating Spring without a visit to the book fair.Farid Ahmed, publisher of Samoy Prokashoni, expressed his satisfaction to the Bangla Academy authority for opening the fair before the regular time.For celebrating Amar Ekushey a contest titled “ Shishu-Kishore Sadharon Gyan O Upasthit Boktrita” final round was held yesterday at 10:00 am in the main stage of Academy. Sujon Barua, Masum Reza and Shahida Khatun were present as Judges.One hundred and thirty-five new books landed in the fair yesterday. Of them, 25 Story, 22 Novel, 1 Article, 42 Poetry, 3 Dissertation, 5 Rhyme, 5 Biography, 6 Liberation War, 1 Drama, 1 Science, 3 Excursion, 1 Health, 1 Computer, 1 Science Fiction and 17 Miscellaneous.Some of new books are Dip of Humayun Ahmed published by Anupom Prokashoni, Ochena Manush of Moni Odhikari published by Utsho Prokashon, Tomakey Patha Koribo of Tusar Abdullah, Vulu Sardarer Chithi of Kaiser Chowdhury and Durer Canvas of Shahana Akter Mohuya published by Oitejya, Shera Dosh Golpo of Selina Hossein and Manosaroni of Ekua Rizia published by Annya Prokash, Ghaser Anti of Nasrin Munni published by Kotha Prokash, Ebong Mukhosh of Richi Dolay published by Pathok Somabesh, Rochonaboli of Samsuddin Abul Klam published by Bivash and Facebook-Bhrammoman Sukh of Asad Bhuiyan published by Bhasha Prokash, among others. A discussion titled “ Bangladeshea Muktijuddha Charcha: Otiet Thekey Bartoman was held at 4:00 pm in the main stage of Academy. Professor Sanat Kumar Saha presided over the function while Professor Mejba Kamal presented the keynote. Professor Syed Anower Hossein, Mohammad Selim and Dibboduti Sarkar participated as the discussant.Later, a cultural function was held in the main stage of Academy. The artists were Tamanna Nipa, Sohel Rahman, Jinat Rehena and Shama Sarkar, among others.Today (Sunday) the fair time is 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and at 4:00 pm. A discussion titled “Bangladeshey Rabindra Charcha: Otiet Thekey Bartoman will be held in the main podium of Academy. Professor Golam Murshid will preside over the function while Professor Bishwajit Ghosh will present the keynote. Ramendu Mojumdar, Professor Korunamoy Goshwami and Atiur Rahman will participate over the discussion. At evening, a fascinating cultural function will be held.
