Spreading of cruelty and killings is not efficiency of police
ONCE again a teenage boy; a restaurant staff was shot dead allegedly by his employer in the capital in the early hours of Wednesday adding to the number of young people falling victims to cruelties in the hand of people they live with them or around them. The gruesome killing again exposed the human brutalities; which were similarly meted out to some similar victims at Sylhet, Khulna and Bagerhat by their employers or neighbours. What is worrying is that despite public outcry and widespread media coverage protesting such killings and bringing pressure on the law enforcers to put the perpetrators on trial, why the voice is not reaching the grassroots and the spate of cruelties is not coming to stop. Every new case suggests that the mentally deranged people are bringing new challenge to the society using the growing lawlessness in a highly charged political environment.
The boy was shot dead this time in a fun game of shooting by the owner of a popular restaurant at Motijheel, in the hub of the capital. He was subjected to beating and torture for some days in the evening locked inside the restaurant blaming him for stealing some money and a mobile phone; which he was persistently denying. On the fateful night that he was also tortured and at one moment the restaurant owner, who claims to be an active ruling party man, made fun of shooting and in fact shot at killing the boy inside the restaurant at midnight. He then orchestrated another drama sending the body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital arranging some restaurant staffers to pass it as an incident of hijackers’ shooting as they were carrying cash to owners’ house from the day’s sale. But the truth immediately revealed as the restaurant owner went on absconding.
It is total failure of the administration that acts of cruelty and killings are increasing. There is no fear of law in some people. The people are doubting what happens after the dangerous ones were easily apprehended. They make also easy confession to police as if the criminals are ready to confess their guilt.
Police are losing public trust about their efficiency when anybody if so wants can kill and torture anyone else only to show his arrogance and power.
