Veteran Indian actor Mithun Chakraborty
is all set to play the role of the iconic character, Kabuliwala, from Rabindranath Tagore’s all-time classic ‘Kabuliwala.’ The story is based on the father-daughter bond that forms between
a young girl and a merchant in Afghanistan.
The story centers around a middle-aged Afghan man’s affection and paternal love
for the small girl of a middle-class Bengali
family, whose house he would occasionally visit. On the sidelines of a programme
in Kolkata recently , Mithun told PTI that
he would not be limited by the past performances of actors who played similar roles
and would instead interpret the character-who has won the hearts of thousands of Bengali households for a century-in his own way.
The legendary actor said, “Yes, I will enact the role of Rehamat, who has been immortalised
in Tagore’s writing, and I have already started taking mental preparations. This Kabuliwala
will have no similarities with the one portrayed by anybody in the past.”
Even 100 days after its release, Mithun’s
most recent Bengali movie, ‘Projapoti,’ is
still running houseful.
Suman Ghosh, who previously collaborated with Mithun on the movie, ‘Nobel Chor’ (2011), will give direction of movie ‘Kabuliwala.’
