A moderate heatwave continues to grip Chuadanga, pushing temperatures skyward and making life difficult for residents battling scorching heat and sticky conditions.
At 3 PM on Wednesday, the mercury in Chuadanga hit 39.5°C, according to Jaminur Rahman, chief of the local Meteorological Office. He added that the day’s highest temperatures were recorded in Jashore and Pabna’s Ishurdi, both reaching a sweltering 39.6°C.
Daily wage workers are bearing the brunt of the oppressive weather, many forced to endure the blistering conditions to earn a living.
Meteorologically, a moderate heatwave is defined by temperatures between 38°C and 40°C. Readings from 36°C to 38°C signal a mild heatwave, while 40°C to 42°C is considered severe. Any temperature above 42°C falls into the extreme heatwave category.
“A moderate heatwave is currently affecting Chuadanga,” Jaminur confirmed, noting that the air humidity stood at 28 percent in the afternoon.
He mentioned that the relatively low humidity slightly softened the heat’s impact. However, he warned that temperatures may continue to rise and the heatwave could persist in the coming days.
