Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has called on Qatar to play a pivotal role in addressing the Rohingya crisis by mobilizing the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to support the repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingya refugees currently sheltering in Bangladesh.

Speaking at a roundtable discussion during the Earthna Summit in Doha on Wednesday, Yunus emphasized Qatar’s potential to lead diplomatic efforts in the current global geopolitical and geostrategic climate.

“Qatar can play a leading role in resolving the Rohingya repatriation crisis by expressing strong solidarity, ensuring active participation of OIC member states, enhancing fundraising initiatives, and applying pressure on the international community to support the return of the Rohingya,” he said.

The roundtable, titled “Social and Environmental Challenges of Forcibly Displaced People – Rohingya Issue”, brought together several high-level officials, including Foreign Affairs Advisor Md Touhid Hossain, Energy Advisor Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, National Security Advisor Khalilur Rahman, and Lamia Morshed, Principal Coordinator for SDGs in the Chief Advisor’s Office.

Addressing the growing burden of the prolonged Rohingya presence in Bangladesh, Yunus noted the rise in criminal activities and illegal migration attempts as signs of deepening despair within the refugee camps.
