A team of final-year undergraduate students of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has won the 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition Bangladesh 2025.
The competition was held on October 12, 2025, through a virtual platform coordinated from Dhaka by Elite Research Lab LLC.
The student team – Team THREE – comprised Yousra Tabassum, Nusrat Sultana, and Anika Islam, who represented IUB’s Center for Computational and Data Sciences (CCDS). They advanced through the poster submission stage, the recorded presentation stage, and the live virtual presentation stage to secure the top position, says a press release.
Team THREE presented a research, titled “Segment Anything Model 2 (SAM 2) for Accurate Flood Detection in Remote Sensing Imagery,” published in the 2024 IEEE Computer Society Conference Proceedings through CEII-2024 in Singapore. The research was supervised by Dr. Ashraful Islam, Director of CCDS and Assistant Professor in the Department of CSE at IUB. The competition began with 238 teams submitting one-page graphical slides following the official 3MT template. A total of 52 teams entered the video presentation round, out of which 14 reached the final stage for live virtual presentations and a two-minute question session with the panel.
This outcome reflects CCDS’s active participation in national research platforms and continued engagement of CSE undergraduate researchers in academic competitions.
