RAB warns against extra Eid fares
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has warned of immediate legal action against transport operators found overcharging home-bound passengers during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.
The warning came on Tuesday morning after RAB-10 Captain Mohammad Kamruzzaman inspected security measures and passenger movement at Sadarghat Launch Terminal, the force said, reports media.
He said the elite unit is working to ensure a smooth and safe journey for millions leaving the capital, with 32 teams deployed in a three-tier arrangement maintaining a 24-hour presence in the field.
Criminal activities often rise during the festive period, prompting the heightened measures, he said, adding that around 2 crore people are expected to leave Dhaka.
He also said the force will focus on securing empty residences across the city to prevent thefts during the holiday period.
At the same time, Bangladesh Coast Guard has intensified surveillance on river routes.
Bangladesh Coast Guard Pagla Station Commander Lt Md Rakibul Islam Rony said 24-hour patrols are in place to maintain law and order and ensure safe river travel during Eid-ul-Fitr.
“Strict monitoring is underway to prevent extortion and overcharging at terminals,” he added.
