Ishwardi (Pabna) Correspondent :
Sailab Ishwardi Bazar is flooded with imported new potatoes. As a result, buyers have to pay an additional price. The price of imported new potatoes has increased by Tk 10-20 per kg from wholesale to retail and is being sold at Tk 100. Besides, the price of potato in the local cold store is Tk 80-85. Imported Indian new potatoes and old country potatoes were seen being sold in the wholesale and retail markets of Ishwardi on Friday.
Traders of raw materials say that if potatoes were not imported, the price would have exceeded Tk 120 per kg. Meanwhile, Ishwardi is rich in vegetable production, but the prices of winter vegetables are on the rise. Consumers are fed up with the high prices of everyday products including vegetables. However, the price of onion has started to decrease due to the rise in onion prices. In a span of two weeks, the price of onion has come down by Tk 50-60 per kg. Desi old onions are being sold at Tk 100 per kg, fresh cut onions and imported onions at Tk 80 per kg.
Various winter vegetables such as radish, cabbage, brinjal and beans can be seen in some markets including Ishwardi Municipal Market and College Road Market. But the price is still high. Vendors say that the supply of vegetables is low as the vegetable fields are damaged due to inundation due to heavy rains and the cultivation is less. So the price is extra.
A buyer named Mannujan Bewa said that there is a lot of vegetable cultivation in Ishwardi. Now there is a lot of supply of winter vegetables in the market. But the price is not reduced. Fire is where you put your hand. If the vegetables produced by themselves have to be eaten at high prices, then where else is there to control the market?
