50 injured in Bhairab BNP factional clash

At least 50 people were injured in a clash between two factions of BNP in Kalikaprashad area in Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj on Thursday afternoon over the cutting of soil for a brick kiln.
Among the injured, Rafiq, Rajon, liton, Shorab, Osman, kamal, Zaman, Sujon, Sattar were admitted to Bhairab Government Hospital. Apart from Rahmat, Monir Miah, Rostam, Omar Faruq, Hamid and others were admitted to private clinics.
On Thursday afternoon, this clash between Kauwabari and Baghabari took place in Dakshinpara Sabed Ali Ghat area of Kalikaprashad Union of Bhairab Upazila.
Receiving information, Police rushed to spot and brought the situation under control.
locals saids, the conflict arose over cutting soil from Bashir Mia’s land for Kamal Mia’s brick kiln in Kalikaprasad Dakshinpara Sabed Ali Ghat area. Nabi Hossain of Kauwabari, Vice President of Kalika Prasad Ward No. 3 Jubo Dal, led the conflict on behalf of the brickyard owner. The other side was led by Juba Dal general secretary of the same ward, Baghabari Md. Mustafa.
Mustafa Miah of Baghabari said, Kamal Miah has been running a brick kiln for a long time by taking over the land of our grandfathers and uncles by breaking the name of Awami League. They tried to defame me by accusing me of extortion because I resisted. When I went to talk to Kamal, some miscreants with him attacked us. Later the matter turned into a conflict.
Nabi Hossain of Kauwabari said, many of our family have invested several crores of takas in brick kilns. We will suffer a lot if the brick kiln is closed. Because of this, we were ambushed for speaking in favor of the brick kiln.
Brickyard owner Kamal said, some BNP leaders including Mustafa and Lokman threatened to close my brickyard. Threatened that they will have to pay only if the soil is cut. They attacked me because I refused to pay the subscription.
Officer in Charge (OC ) of Bhairab model police station, Md. Shaheen said, ‘The situation in the area is currently calm. Necessary measures will be taken based on the complaints of both parties.
