The village home of Sharif Osman Hadi-spokesperson of Inquilab Mancha and a potential independent candidate for Dhaka-8-was burglarized on Friday night in Nalchiti, Jhalokathi. Hadi came into prominence during the July 2024 uprising against the Awami League regime.
The burglary occurred in the Khasmahal area of the town while the house was unoccupied, confirmed Hadi’s cousin Sirajul Islam. He said the intruders gained entry by breaking a window. The exact value of the stolen items has not yet been ascertained.
Nalchiti Police Station officer-in-charge Ariful Alam confirmed the incident, saying police had already visited the spot and that those involved would be brought to justice promptly.
Earlier the same day, at around 2:15 pm, Sharif Osman Hadi was shot by unidentified assailants while riding in a rickshaw near the water tank area in Bijoynagar, Dhaka. Two men on a motorcycle opened fire at close range before escaping.
Hadi was initially taken in critical condition to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and was later shifted to Evercare Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Upon receiving news of the attack, members of Hadi’s family left their home for Dhaka that same afternoon.
