Four members of a family, including a child, were burned when a mobile phone exploded while it was plugged in for charging in Sonargaon, Narayanganj. The injured are: Zarina Begum (65), her son Md. Alauddin (35), and Alauddin’s daughters Shifa Akter (14) and Shimla (4). The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday (6 December) behind the Chandmahal Cinema Hall in the Kanchpur area of the upazila. They were rescued and admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. Neighbors said they heard that the phone suddenly exploded while it was charging, leaving four out of the five family members injured. Shawon Bin Rahman, a resident surgeon at the National Burn and
Plastic Surgery Institute, said that four people were brought in burned from a house in Narayanganj. Alauddin sustained burns over 40% of his body, Sifu 12%, Shimla 30%, and Zarina Begum 20%. All four patients remain admitted in the ward. Jahangir Alam, Senior Station Officer of Shimrail Fire Service, said, “No one informed us of the incident. We will look into it.”
