Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has achieved a new milestone in its goal of converting waste management into assets.
Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain inaugurated the “Test Boring of Gas Well” at Anand Bazar Landfield, Halishahar on Wednesday.
After the inauguration, the Mayor said, there is no alternative to converting waste into assets to reduce waterlogging and prevent environmental pollution.
Through this project, we want to make Chattogram a clean, green and healthy city. Ever since I took charge as Mayor, I was thinking about how to convert the city’s waste into assets.
The people of Halishahar have been suffering from stench and pollution for years. By implementing this project, we will not only protect the environment, but also ensure energy security by producing biogas from waste.
The Mayor said that for the first time, biogas production has started experimentally in Chattagram under the City Corporation’s “Waste to Energy” project.
He expressed hope that if this test boring is successful, the project will be fully operational by December-January, and the people will get free waste management services.
The function was attended by CCC Secretary Md. Ashraful Amin, Chief Cleaning Officer Captain Ikhtiar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, local dignitaries and cleaning workers.
