Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Thursday handed over the deed of a three-katha plot in Purbachal to Mahir Sarowar Megh, the son of slain journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.

The formal handover took place at the State Guesthouse Jamuna in the capital on Thursday.
Journalist Sagar Sarowar had applied for the plot in 2004, which was allotted in 2005. Despite completing the full payment in 2009, the previous Awami League government did not hand over possession of the plot to his family, CA office said.

By inheritance, the current owners of the plot are Sagar Sarowar’s mother, Saleha Monir, and his son, Mahir Sarowar Megh.

During the handover ceremony, the Chief Adviser inquired about the progress of the long-stalled investigation into the murder of Sagar and Runi.

“Such prolonged delays in investigation create negative public reactions and erode people’s faith in the justice system,” Dr Yunus said.

He directed the concerned authorities to complete the investigation without further delay.
Adviser for Housing and Public Works, Adilur Rahman Khan, who was present at the event, said the current investigating agency, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), had informed that many crucial pieces of evidence were lost due to the prolonged investigation process.

On the occasion, Megh presented the Chief Adviser with a jersey and a bag designed by himself.
Also present at the deed handover were Advisers Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Farida Akhter, and Syeda Rizwana Hasan, as well as RAJUK Chairman Engineer Md. Riazul Islam, and Meherun Runi’s brother, Nowsher Alam Roman.
