Police have failed to submit the arrest report for former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, Rehana’s son Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby, daughters British MP Tulip Siddiq and Azmina Siddique Ruponti, along with 17 others, in three separate cases involving alleged abuse of power in the allocation of nearly 0.20 hectares of Rajuk plots.
The report was scheduled for submission on Sunday before Dhaka’s Senior Metropolitan Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib, but police did not comply. The court has now set May 12 as the new deadline, confirmed Aminul Islam, Assistant Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) prosecution wing.
On April 13, arrest warrants were issued against the accused for remaining absconding, with April 27 initially fixed for filing the report.
In the three cases, Sheikh Rehana is the principal accused in one, Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby in another, and Azmina Siddique Ruponti in the third. Sheikh Hasina and Tulip Siddiq are listed as accomplices in all three cases.
Separately, on April 10, arrest warrants were also issued against Hasina, her daughter Saima Wazed Putul, and 16 others in a separate ACC case over alleged irregularities in the Purbachal plot allocation.
Further, on April 15, two additional cases were filed regarding the Purbachal New Town Project, leading to arrest warrants against Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and 27 others.
The cases originate from complaints filed on January 13, when ACC Deputy Director Salahuddin accused Rehana of abusing power to obtain a 10-katha (0.06 hectares) plot in Purbachal, naming Hasina, Tulip Siddiq, and 13 others as co-accused.
Following investigations, ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya submitted a chargesheet against 17 individuals on March 10. The same day, Keya filed another case against Azmina Siddique Ruponti, resulting in a separate chargesheet against 18 accused.
Additionally, ACC Assistant Director SM Rashedul Hasan filed a case on January 13 against Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby, also implicating Hasina, Tulip Siddiq, and 14 others. A chargesheet against 18 individuals was submitted following the investigation.
All cases were lodged with the ACC’s Integrated District Office in Dhaka.
