ACC accuses DNCC admin

Staff Reporter :

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has opened a preliminary investigation into allegations of abuse of power, irregularities, corruption, and bribery against Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Azaz.

The probe began on Thursday, confirmed through a letter signed by ACC Director Ishita Rony authorising the initial inquiry. A senior ACC official, requesting anonymity, also verified the development to the media.

ACC sources said the commission initiated the investigation after receiving multiple complaints. The director general of Investigation-1 has been instructed to take necessary steps and oversee the probe.

Azaz, appointed by the interim government as DNCC administrator on February 12 for a one-year term, is now under scrutiny.

Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan said the government would act if wrongdoing is proven.

“If there is any irregularity, the ACC has full authority to investigate. If they find anything, they will inform us, and we will take the necessary steps,” he told reporters at the Secretariat.
