Work comes first, not early remarks: Amir Khasru

Staff Reporter:

Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Sunday said his immediate focus would be on getting to work rather than offering premature comments.

Speaking to reporters at the Planning Ministry in Agargaon on his first day in office, the minister said only two days had passed since he assumed charge and that he wanted time to review matters before speaking publicly.
“We prefer to talk less and work more,” he said. “I have just arrived at the ministry. I will first look into everything and then speak. Our belief is in action.”

Asked about future plans, Amir Khasru reiterated that he would comment only after thorough assessment. He said he would sit with officials, understand the issues in detail and then provide objective information to the media.

Although describing himself as press-friendly, the minister said he does not want to make statements without proper review. “I will consult with everyone concerned and examine the issues carefully. Once that is done, it will be easier to discuss matters clearly,” he added.

He also noted that he prefers brief comments, as they help journalists better understand key points. “I have just joined, and Inshallah we are beginning work.

All information will be shared at the right time,” he said. When officials from the Planning Commission and the Planning Ministry welcomed him with flowers, the minister urged them to move away from such traditions.

“Let us leave behind the culture of ceremonial greetings,” he said. “The time has come to focus on work. There have been enough formalities—now we must concentrate on our responsibilities.”

Among those present were National Board of Revenue Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan, Planning Division Secretary SM Shakil Akhter, and other senior officials.
