India signals multifaceted bilateral ties with Bangladesh

Staff Reporter :

India has signaled multifaceted bilateral ties with Bangladesh following the formation of a new government led by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal at a weekly media briefing on Friday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman soon after his election victory.
Jaiswal noted that Om Birla attended the swearing-in ceremony of the new government on February 17 and personally handed over a letter from Modi to Rahman.

“The letter underlined India’s commitment to support a democratic, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh,” Jaiswal said adding that India sees scope for expanding cooperation across sectors.

“Building on the warm and historic ties between the two countries, India looks forward to further strengthening our multifaceted bilateral ties with Bangladesh,” he said.

Addressing questions on visa operations between the two neighbours, Jaiswal said the matter would be discussed with the Bangladesh government in due course, indicating that ongoing consular and mobility issues remain on the bilateral agenda.

India’s latest remarks signal a willingness to work closely with the BNP-led administration, which assumed office earlier this week, and to carry forward cooperation based on shared interests and longstanding ties between the two countries.
