26 candidates lose deposits in Khulna’s 6 seats
Khulna Correspondent :
A total of 26 candidates forfeited their security deposits in Khulna’s six parliamentary constituencies in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election held on Thursday (February 12), as they failed to secure the minimum required votes.
Out of 38 candidates who contested in the six seats, only 12 managed to retain their deposits.
According to Election Commission rules, a candidate must secure at least one-eighth of the total valid votes cast in a constituency to avoid losing the deposit. The remaining 26 candidates fell short of that threshold.
The unofficial results were announced late Thursday night following the completion of vote counting.
Khulna Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer for constituencies 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6, ASM Jamshed Khondokar, and Returning Officer for Khulna-3 and Regional Election Officer Faisal Kader declared the results separately.
In Khulna-1, several candidates, including nominees from Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Jatiya Party, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), and other parties, failed to meet the required vote share.
In Khulna-2, Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Amanullah lost his deposit after securing 7,298 votes.
In Khulna-4, Islami Andolan’s Yunus Ahmed Sheikh and independent candidate SM Azmal Hossain were unable to retain their deposits.
In Khulna-5, Jatiya Party’s Shamim Ara Parvin and CPB’s Chittaranjan Goldar fell below the required vote margin.
In Khulna-6, CPB’s Prashanta Kumar Mondal, Islami Andolan’s Asadullah Fakir and Jatiya Party’s Mostafa Kamal Jahangir also failed to secure one-eighth of the votes.
In Khulna-3, candidates from Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Jatiya Party, and several independents similarly lost their deposits after failing to reach the mandatory vote threshold.
