Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and National Citizen Party (NCP) led 11-party alliance nominee for the Dhaka-08 Nasiruddin Patwary on Saturday unveiled his election manifesto, emphasising his commitment to build a constituency that truly serves its people.
Speaking at an open-air event in front of the Anti-Corruption Commission gate in Segunbagicha, Patwary declared that “Dhaka-08 will serve the people,” promising a comprehensive agenda centered on justice, safety, healthcare, education, employment, civic convenience, and environmental sustainability.
Patwary, also Chief Coordinator of NCP, said that if elected, his foremost priority would be to secure justice for the slain former Dhaka-08 candidate, Shaheed Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, by raising the issue in parliament and exerting pressure at both national and international levels until justice is delivered. Highlighting his vision for a safe and secure Dhaka-08, he pledged zero tolerance for extortion, corruption, drug trafficking, terrorism, and illegal occupation of public or private property.
He assured citizens that complaints could be submitted confidentially through a dedicated portal and would be swiftly investigated. He also committed to launching anti-drug campaigns, strengthening CCTV surveillance, improving street lighting, safeguarding women and children against harassment and violence, and ensuring humane treatment of animals.
On healthcare, Patwary promised to make all government hospitals, medical colleges, and health centers in Dhaka-08 syndicate-free, accessible, and equipped with modern facilities.
Patwary said efforts would be made to maintain cleanliness, patient-friendly environments, and proper staffing, along with regular vaccination campaigns, disease control programs, and special provisions for the elderly and differently-abled citizens.
Education and skill development are central to Patwary’s vision. He pledged to establish a merit-based and discrimination-free education system, modernize infrastructure, introduce advanced computer labs and AI-based training, and foster entrepreneurship among students. Plans also include safe recreational spaces and parks for children and youth, as well as specialized skill development centers to provide training, workspace, and mentorship for job seekers, freelancers, and women entrepreneurs. Patwary emphasised citizen-friendly governance, promising to resolve issues related to electricity, gas, and water supply, ease traffic congestion through coordinated measures.
and ensure timely access to essential services like birth registration, passports, NID, and trade licenses.
Calling security, the core of his electoral commitment, Nasiruddin Patwari said, “Our main goal is a ‘Safe Dhaka-8’- an area where women can move freely and safely even late at night.”
He emphasised building a drug-free society, introducing technology-driven surveillance systems, and ensuring the safety of children and adolescents.
On the referendum issue, Nasiruddin Patwari said a referendum is not merely a political process, but a historic opportunity for people to express their will.
He noted that the 11-party alliance has taken a clear stance in favor of the referendum and initiatives are underway to build mass awareness on the issue in Dhaka-8.
“We are campaigning in favor of the referendum by distributing leaflets and handbills in kitchen markets, mosques, schools, colleges and shopping malls,” he said.
Expressing his expectations for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, Patwari said that the country has long been gripped by a climate of fear and repression, and the capture of various institutions has left ordinary citizens unable to speak freely. Yet, he remained optimistic, stating “People of Dhaka-8 are assuring us that through their votes, they will deliver a verdict against oppression and in favor of justice and reform.”
Regarding the electoral code of conduct, he said his party and supporters are strictly following it. “We do not engage in any provocation and believe in peaceful campaigning,” he said, alleging that some of their billboards and campaign materials related to the referendum and election were removed by the administration and opposition activists. Despite this, he said they would continue peaceful campaign.
Referring to the 11-party alliance, Nasiruddin Patwari said people are leaning toward the alliance because it speaks for the public.
“We are raising the voice of the people. The people themselves will take us to victory-Inshallah,” he added.
