Freedom fighters, July warriors getting united: Col. Oli

Staff Reporter :

The President of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Dr Colonel (Retd) Oli Ahmed, Bir Bikram, has said, Freedom fighters and July warriors getting united.

“We have not joined Jamaat, nor has Jamaat joined the LDP. Our party symbol is not the ‘scales’; our symbol is the ‘umbrella’, he said.

The forces of the Liberation War and the forces of July have come together. We have reached a seat-sharing understanding. In the constituencies where we will field candidates, Jamaat will not do so, and likewise, where they will field candidates, we will not.”

He made the remarks on Monday (5 January 2026) at an emergency press conference at the LDP central office in Gulfeshan Plaza, Mogbazar, in the capital.

Dr Oli Ahmed further said that Jamaat is now “purified.” “If they were not purified, how could a Bir Bikram and a freedom fighter stand with them? Those who liberated Bangladesh for the second time and created the space for everyone to speak freely—the majority of those youths were Jamaat boys. Even the BNP secretary general has said that they had no involvement with this struggle. So those who freed Bangladesh from autocracy for the second time, and I who fought against Pakistan the first time—we have all come together. We have united to provide you with good governance.”

At the same time, he said that how Bangladesh would be run would be decided by the people of the country. He stated, “We have no dispute with India. But we will not act as slaves of Modi, nor as slaves of Amit Shah. The people of Bangladesh will decide how Bangladesh will be run. We will not engage in treachery or hypocrisy where decisions are made in Delhi and implemented in Bangladesh. I also urge the people to be cautious of those who are acting as agents of Delhi and Modi.

If we do the same things that Hasina did, then what difference will there be between Hasina and us? We do not want to be agents of India. Identify those who are serving India and take a stand against them, because they want to sell Bangladesh to India. Attracted by various temptations, including money and women, they have surrendered to India.”

In this context, he added, “We have no statements against the people of India—they are human beings like us. But we do not want to operate according to the policies of India or the RAW. We will work based on the opinions of the people of Bangladesh. Jamaat wants the same thing. That is why we have reached a seat-sharing understanding with Jamaat.”
