Truck runs over pregnant woman, elderly man in Gopalganj

Two pedestrians, including a pregnant woman, were killed after being run over by a sand-laden truck while crossing the road in Gopalganj’s Muksudpur Upazila. The incident also left two others, including a child, injured.

The fatal accident occurred around 12:30pm on Thursday on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway in the Old Muksudpur area, said Inspector Shital Chandra Pal.

The deceased have been identified as 30-year-old Rahima Begum, the pregnant wife of A Rahman from Boalmari in Faridpur, and 70-year-old Jamal Uddin, also a resident of Boalmari.

According to Mehedi Hasan, Station Officer at the Muksudpur Fire Service, a truck en route to Dhaka struck four pedestrians. Rahima died on the spot, while Jamal and the two others were critically injured. Jamal later succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex.

Inspector Shital confirmed that the truck has been seized. Legal procedures are underway, and the bodies will be handed over to the families upon completion.
