Five killed in Dinajpur road crash

At least five passengers were killed and 15 others injured when a Dhaka-bound passenger bus of Nabil Paribahan rammed into a stationary truck in Dinajpur’s Ghoraghat Upazila early Saturday.
The accident occurred around 4:20 am in Noorjahanpur area on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway, according to Ghoraghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Nazmul Haque.
The identities of the deceased and injured are yet to be ascertained.
Confirming the incident, OC Nazmul Haque said that several trucks carrying mangoes were parked on the roadside in the Noorjahanpur area.
At that time, the Nabil Paribahan bus coming from Panchagarh lost control and crashed into the rear of one of the stationary trucks.
“The front portion of the bus was severely mangled in the impact, and the five passengers died on the spot,” the OC said.
He added that at least 15 passengers were injured, with seven of them in a critical condition. The critically injured were transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, while others were admitted to nearby local hospitals for treatment.
Upon receiving news of the accident, police, army personnel, and fire service teams quickly arrived at the scene and carried out rescue operations.
The injured were immediately taken to hospitals for medical attention, the police official said.
