Govt office heads urged to curb fuel use
Officials have been urged to practice austerity in fuel consumption in government offices in view of the spirit of restraint during the holy month of Ramadan and the global situation including the US-Iran conflict.
The request was made at the monthly meeting of the Khulna District Development Coordination Committee held today at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office with Deputy Commissioner ASM Jamshed Khondkar in the chair.
Speaking at the meeting, the chair urged heads of different government offices to ensure economical use of fuel considering the prevailing circumstances.
Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. MizanurRahman said cleanliness drives should be carried out by all offices in the district on their own initiative to prevent dengue, chikungunya and mosquito breeding.
Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Agriculturist Md. Nazrul Islam informed the meeting that cultivation activities in the district are progressing well with 99.66 percent of the target for Boro paddy already achieved.

District Livestock Officer Dr. Md. Shariful Islam said the sale of eggs, milk and meat at subsidized prices has continued since the first day of Ramadan.
He said a total of 136,773 eggs, 5,816 litres of milk, 4,419 kg of dressed broiler chicken, 2,707 kg of dressed Sonali chicken, 6,545 kg of beef and 501 kg of mutton have been sold at 10 locations across the district so far, with the total sales value amounting to Taka 8,094,168.
District Fisheries Officer Md. Badruzzaman said 10 drives and three mobile courts were conducted against jelly pushing in exportable shrimp, during which 408 kg of shrimp were destroyed and fines amounting to Taka 65,000 were realised.
The deputy director of the Islamic Foundation said the process of providing honorariums to imams, muezzins, khadems, priests, sebayets and heads of monasteries is ongoing.
He also urged people to donate a portion of their zakat to the foundation’s Zakat Board, which is tax-free.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Bitan Kumar Mondal and officials from different government departments, among others, were present at the meeting.
