7th Thyroid Fair 2025 & 16th Thyroid Conference Announced in Dhaka

The Bangladesh Institute of Thyroid Medicine and Imaging Research (BITMIR) and The Thyroid Center Ltd. have jointly organized the 16th Thyroid Conference, a scientific seminar titled “Thyroid – The Mother Gland”, taking place today at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka. This prestigious conference is being attended by 250 eminent professors, physicians, and researchers from across the country.
Renowned medical professionals are presenting scholarly papers covering a wide range of topics—from pathophysiology to interventional techniques—along with specialized sessions on ultrasound-guided interventions.
Alongside the conference, the 7th Thyroid Fair 2025 will be held from May 22 to May 24 at The Thyroid Center Ltd.’s Dhanmondi campus (House 11, 6th Floor, Road-5, Dhanmondi-5, Dhaka-1205). The fair will provide free and low-cost thyroid-related medical services to over 3,000 patients over the course of three days.
The fair will officially be inaugurated by Professor Dr. A.K.M. Fazlul Bari, nuclear medicine and thyroid specialist, and Director, Professor & Head of Department at NINMAS, Bangladesh Medical University. The inauguration ceremony will also be attended by prominent healthcare professionals and members of both print and electronic media.
Objectives of the Thyroid Fair:
Raise public awareness for early diagnosis of thyroid conditions. Promote disease prevention and healthy living. Educate the public about modern treatment methods for thyroid disorders.
Address common misconceptions, including that thyroid disease is not contagious.
Highlight hereditary risks—children of parents with thyroid disorders have a 70% chance of developing similar conditions.
Professor Dr. A.K.M. Fazlul Bari shared alarming statistics, revealing that around 20% of Bangladesh’s population suffer from thyroid-related diseases. Women are disproportionately affected, with 3 out of every 5 patients being female. Among children, 1 in every 2,300 is born with congenital thyroid issues. Startlingly, 60% of thyroid patients remain undiagnosed and untreated.
Dr. Bari also emphasized the rise of Sub-Clinical Hypothyroidism, affecting 8% of patients, most of whom are unaware of their condition. He stressed the importance of awareness and regular screening.
New Advancements in Treatment: The Thyroid Center Ltd. has introduced cutting-edge techniques like Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) and Microwave Ablation, allowing non-surgical removal of thyroid tumors using needle-based interventions without the need for anesthesia or hospitalization. These methods are being offered at the fair at 25% discounted rates and are expected to revolutionize the treatment of thyroid and liver tumors in Bangladesh.
