Momtaz Begum wants to be women MP

Chhatra Dal leader Momtaz Begum Nayan has emerged as a potential candidate in this race due to her organizational skills and street activism. She was seeking nomination from Jhalakati-1 constituency (Rajapur-Kathalia).
After the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) formed the government with a single majority in the 13th National Parliament election, the reserved women’s seat in the parliament is now at the center of discussion in the political arena. BNP is going to get 35 seats out of the 50 reserved seats proportionally.
According to the Election Commission (EC), the election for the reserved women’s seat may be held in the holy month of Ramadan. Already, potential candidates have started submitting their political profiles and past movement records to the party’s policy-making level.
In this process, the name of Momtaz Begum Nayan is being mentioned by ordinary leaders and activists as a potential name from Jhalakati district.
