Local people, including retired Army personnel in Manikdi, Matikata, and Joar Sahara areas, are living with anxiety due to the audacity of land grabber Nazim Uddin Bhuyian, which continues unabated.
Sources have reported that at least 30 cases and several general diaries (GD) have been filed against Nazim, including an attempted murder case involving retired Army Sergeant Babul Hossain.
Nazim was recently released from jail in connection with the attempted murder case and has become more violent.
On March 20, a Rajuk Magistrate conducted a drive against Nazim Uddin’s under-construction building, Marwa Tower, in Manikdi, as the building is being constructed without obtaining Rajuk approval.
However, the Magistrate faced threats from Nazim’s people and left the area quickly after serving a notice.
Based on the documents of the cases filed against him, it is evident that Nazim Uddin has illegally grabbed several people’s land, including that of Sergeant (retd) Babul Hossain in Joar Sahara area.
Nazim, who started working with a monthly salary of 3000 taka in a waste materials shop, has now become the owner of crores of taka without any legitimate source of income. In cases of land grabbing, Nazim frequently uses the signboard of his construction firm, New Gini Properties Ltd.
He uses fake land documents to illegally and forcibly acquire land.
His unlawful group includes four of his brothers, several hijras, and teenage gangs, which has created panic among the local people.
Sergeant (retd) Babul Hossain, who is also an Awami League worker, along with several other retired Army officers, bought lands with Dag numbers 561, 562, and 563 in the low line area of Joar Sahara mouja.
They have filled the low-lying land with soil but are now barred from approaching the land by Nazim Uddin’s people.
Nazim Uddin and his associates have attacked Babul Hossain several times.
He has also grabbed the land of a local elderly man, Borhan Uddin, after the latter failed to pay the extortion he demanded.
The documents of the cases also show that Nazim deceives people by selling plots and flats at attractive prices.
When questioned about the allegations, Nazim told the media that all of them are false propaganda against him.
When asked about his people’s threats to the Rajuk Magistrate on March 20, Nazim stated that the magistrate should have given him time to demolish the illegal parts of the building before initiating the drive.
