Scout materials were distributed among the primary schools of Kapasia Upazila of Gazipur on Monday under the funding of the Cub Scouting Extension (Phase IV) project implemented by Bangladesh Scouts under the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education. Parliamentary Standing Committee President and Presidium member of Bangladesh Awami League Simeen Hussain Rimi MP distributed scouting materials as the chief guest in Upazila Parishad Auditorium. President of Upazila Scouts and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) AKM Golam Morshed Khan chaired among others Upazila Parishad Chairman Adv. Md Amanat Hossain Khan, Vice Chairman Asaduzzaman Asad, Female Vice Chairman Roshan Ara Sarkar, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nazmul Hossain, Upazila Education Officer Ansar Uddin, Harimanjuri Girls High School Principal Abdul Malek were present.

Women empowerment, violence prevention stressed

On the occasion of Women’s Violence Prevention, a discussion meeting on ‘Women’s Empowerment and Prevention of Women’s Violence’ was organized at Tilottma Hotelunder the initiative of Aparajita project of DemocracyWatch, a non-governmental development organization on Monday .
Rangpur District Senior Assistant Judge and Legal Aid Officer Md. Minhajur Rahman spoke as guest speakers in the meeting, Rajesh Dey, regional coordinator of The Hunger Project; Bangladesh Mahila Parishad Rangpur district president Hashna Chowdhury, Zila Parishad reserved member Khyant Rani, RDRS former director and Swarnani Association president Manjushree Saha, Mithapukur upazila women vice chairman Shamima Akhtar Jasmine. Women leader and former women chairman of the project area Sultana Akhtar, woman leader Masuda Akhtar, tribal women leader Susanna Rani Toppo, woman leader Nilufa Begum, woman leader Rumana Begum, woman leader Runa Laila, woman leader Rahima Parveen and women also spoke in this meeting. Leader Rikta Begum. The meeting was moderated by Feroze Md. Nurun-Nabi Jugal, project coordinator of DemocracyWatch-Aparajita project. Aparajita Project Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator Faisal Habib gave a welcome address in the meeting. In the meeting, Rangpur District Senior Assistant Judge and Legal Aid Officer Md. Minhazur Rahman said that due to the current government’s timely decision and strong action, the judiciary has been freed from the culture of impunity, but in some cases, there are cases of procrastination. He also said that due to the shortage of judges in the judiciary, it is taking time for the aspirants to get a fair trial. He urged all Aparajitas (women leaders) who came to the discussion meeting to be aware and vigilant about their duties and responsibilities. Mr. Rahman said that due to people’s ignorance about the prevailing laws in the country, many times justice candidates do not get proper justice.
He stressed the importance of appointing more judges to get fair justice in the country. In the meeting, about 40 grassroots women leaders from Rangpur, Dinajpur and Nilphamari under the jurisdiction of Rangpur Cluster highlighted the organized violence and deprivation of women against them.
