A tragic incident unfolded in the Mirpur area of the city on Saturday evening, resulting in the death of a youth and the injury of another in a clash stemming from previous hostilities.
The victim, identified as Md Faisal, also known as Russel, was the son of Md Shahadat from the Murapara area of Mirpur’s Section 12.
The injured, Rashed, is currently receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College & Hospital, as confirmed by Md. Bacchu Mia, in charge of the DMCH police outpost.
According to local accounts, an argument between Faisal and Shaheen erupted on Friday due to an old dispute. Later that afternoon, Faisal was seen singing in front of Shaheen’s house, where his sister Tanjila was present.
Additionally, it was reported that Faisal’s girlfriend was scheduled to marry him in the coming days.
On Saturday evening, while Faisal and Rashed were returning in an autorickshaw from an Iftar party, they were intercepted by a group of eight to ten young men led by Tanjila’s brother Shaheen and her husband, Kalu.
In a violent confrontation, Faisal and Rashed were brutally attacked, resulting in severe injuries. This incident was captured by a local CCTV camera.
Following the altercation, both injured individuals were promptly taken to a nearby hospital and later transferred to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 8:30 pm.
Tragically, despite efforts by medical personnel, Faisal succumbed to his injuries, and his body has been placed in the hospital morgue.
“We are diligently investigating the motives behind this tragic event,” stated Md Moklesur Rahman, Inspector (Investigation) of Pallabi police station, emphasising that a case has already been filed in connection with the incident.
