Two more fire incidents in capital

Amidst the bustling streets and towering structures of the capital, two separate fire incidents unfolded on Saturday.

It was known that in Gulshan, flames erupted within the confines of the AWR Tower, a multi-storey marvel nestled in the heart of the Gulshan-1 area.

“The fire originated at around 4:00pm on Saturday and after being informed, six units of fire service rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after around half an hour,” said Md Rafi Al Faruque, control room duty officer at Fire Service and Civil Defence.

“The damages of the fire could not be known immediately.

It is primarily assumed that the fire originated from the outdoor unit of air conditioner,” Fire Service official added.

Simultaneously, a separate ordeal unfurled in the quiet hours of dawn within Chawkbazar, as flames engulfed a chemical warehouse, casting an ominous glow over the city’s landscape.

For nearly three arduous hours, firefighters waged a valiant struggle against the relentless onslaught, eventually wresting control from the jaws of destruction at around 6 am.

Rashed Bin Khalid, an official with the Fire Service and Civil Defence, said shed light on the challenges faced in combating the warehouse inferno and said, ” Amidst stockpiles of plastic and adhesive materials used in shoemaking, the firefighting units encountered formidable obstacles exacerbated by narrow thoroughfares and scarce water resources.
