Tk 3 lakh fine imposed for excavating soil

A mobile court has fined an excavator owner 3 lakh taka for illegally cutting soil from a canal and agricultural land next to the canal in Chauddagram, Comilla. The information was confirmed by Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Syed Safkat Ali on Wednesday evening.

It is learnt that for a long time, an organised group had been cutting soil from Maskara-Chandrapur Krishnachara (Khan) and adjacent agricultural land and taking it to Anik Bricks in Chandakara Ekta Bazar.

On Wednesday afternoon, a mobile court led by Upazila Executive Magistrate Syed Safkat Ali reached the spot after receiving information about the soil being cut with excavators.
Based on immediate and appropriate evidence, the owner of the veku, Saiful Islam, was fined three lakh taka under Section 15 of the ‘Sand Palace and Soil Management Act, 2010’.

The Chauddagram Municipality, the police station’s smart team and the village police of Kankapait UP assisted in conducting the mobile court.

Upazila Executive Magistrate Syed Safkat Ali said that cutting soil from agricultural land without permission is a punishable offense.

Organized groups have been cutting soil in various places in the upazila for a long time and taking it to brick kilns in exchange for large sums of money. The upazila administration is conducting regular drives.

The latest drive today in Chandrapur area resulted in a fine of three lakh taka. This drive against those involved in illegally cutting soil from government property and agricultural land will continue.
