Farmer drowned in Brahmaputra River

A farmer died after being swept away by the current while crossing the Brahmaputra River channel with his cow in Ulipur upazila in Kurigram district.
The accident occurred in Char Gujimari village, located on the banks of the Brahmaputra River under Hatia Union of the upazila on Tuesday.
The farmer was identified as Taiyab Ali (55) son of late Abdul Bashed of the area.
According to local sources, Taiyab Ali was returning from grazing in the pasture with his 10-12 cows after Tuesday afternoon. At that time, he tried to swim across a channel of the Brahmaputra River and drowned in the strong current of the river along with two cows.
Later, locals searched and recovered his body in the afternoon. But his two cows are still missing.
Former Chairman of Hatia Union BM Abul Hossain confirmed the matter and said, “Taiyab Ali was a marginal farmer.
He died while swimming in the river channel while grazing his cows. His two cows have also been lost, which is an irreparable loss for the family.”
