Adviser to the ministries of environment, forest and climate change, water resources, and information and broadcasting Syeda Rizwana Hasan on Wednesday stressed the need for comprehensive plans focusing on sustainable river governance and flood control for the Jamuna, one of Bangladesh’s major rivers vital to its geomorphology.

Speaking as chief guest at the “Nodi Project Concluding Seminar on Pathways to Sustainable Management of the Jamuna River” held at Panthapath Water Development Board office, she underscored preserving the river’s shape, features, biodiversity, and essential elements of local livelihoods, says a press release.

The adviser highlighted initiatives to ensure adequate water for Boro rice cultivation and reduce salinity. She also thanked Japan as a proven friend since independence, expressing optimism for continued cooperation in Bangladesh’s economic and infrastructural development.

The seminar, chaired by Water Development Board Executive Engineer Moh Enayet Ullah, was attended by Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi, Additional Secretary of Water Resources Ministry Khondkar Azim Ahmed, Planning Commission Additional Secretary Moh Enamul Haque, and others.
