After long speculation and controversy, Sabina Khatun has finally returned to the national team jersey. But this time not on the green field, but on the fast-paced floor of Futsal. The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) announced an 18-member preliminary squad for the first-ever South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women’s Futsal Championship. The leadership of this team has been handed over to experienced forward Sabina Khatun.

Sabina and Masura were dropped from the national women’s team after winning the 2022 Women’s SAFF Championship due to rebellion and written complaints against Head Coach Peter James Butler. After that break, they are returning to the national stage through Futsal.

Apart from Sabina, familiar faces like defender Masura Parveen, Matsushima Sumaiya and Krishna Rani Sarkar have returned to the Futsal squad. At the same time, Marzia and Misrat Jahan Moushumi, important members of the 2022 Women’s Safwaji team, have also been included in the team. It is believed that this return of seniors will increase Bangladesh’s chances in the upcoming championship.

It is noteworthy that this is not the first time for Sabina in the Futsal format. Earlier in 2018, the Bangladesh Women’s Futsal team participated in the Women’s Asian Cup Futsal qualifiers in Thailand under her leadership. However, the service team failed to win.

Primary Futsal squad (18 members): Sabina Khatun (Captain), Matsushima Sumaiya, Masura Parveen, Krishna Rani Sarkar, Misrat Jahan Moushumi, Marzia, Lipi Akhter, Unnati Khatun, Mehenur Akhter, Ratri Moni, Sumi Khatun, Nawsin Jahan, Nilufa Yasmin Nila, Nasrin Akhter, Sejuti Islam Smriti, Sathi Biswas, Iti Rani and Swapna Akhter Julie.
